June 8, 2019, Sanur, Bali — On June 8th each year, we celebrate World Ocean Day. It is the time of the year to celebrate and take action to protect ocean health. Whether you live near the coast or far from the sea, we are all connected to the oceans.
This year Maison Aurelia Sanur, one of our hotel partners, in collaboration with CTC took action through coral planting to celebrate World Ocean Day. Maison Aurelia staff traveled to Nusa Lembongan for live tagging at our coral nursery. They adopted three baby corals to be planted in the nursery. We work together with the local community, Satya Posona Nusa (SPN) to restore the coral reefs in the Nusa Penida Marine Protected Area (MPA) by transplanting naturally broken coral fragments and helping them grow in an underwater nursery. Through this action, we help coral restoration to c healthy reefs and benefit our ocean ecosystems.
Coral reefs play a vital role in the ocean. They are the foundation of marine life, and without them many of the sea’s most exquisite species will not survive. The more corals there are the healthier reefs are and the more fish you’ll find in the ocean!
